In reply to your communication of the 26 ult. I am directed by the Assistant Commissioner to say that if the parties who took the prisoners from Lt. Howe will arrest and deliver up McKenzie, who is represented to have been the ringleader, every one now in arrest will be released. Advise the other to go to work. 

The Sub. Asst. Com'r at Palestine has been directed to transfer to you any records he may have belonging to your Sub District.

I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your communication of the 2nd inst. inclosing statement of the killing of Freedman Wooton as taken from the docket.

It was through an error that the letter of the 26 ult. was written from this office asking you to report this case. The clerk directed to look up the case in your Monthly Report misunderstood the name and was unable to find what he supposed should have been reported.

The case as stated in your report for May is perfectly satisfactory.
