I send you by today's mail an order relieving your from duty in the 58 Sub District and directing your to report at this Head qrs.

The order is issued for the reason that the Asst. Commissioner is unwilling that your life should be imperiled further.

You can turn over your books and papers at Clarksville and proceed as you deem best from that point to Austin. I would however, advise you to come by stage from Clarksville via Waco.

Information has reached this office that the Grand Jury found an indictment against you for murder, you are authorized to disregard this indictment and are hereby exempted from arrest thereon.

In reply to your communication recommending Mr. W.H. Adams for appointment, as Asst Sub Asst. Com., I am directed by General Reynolds to state that the assignment of Mr. Chas. T. Rand to duty at Marlin, Texas, will obviate the necessity of an assistant.

Your favor of the 14 inst. addressed to General Reynolds with inclosure is at hand and has been referred to Mr. W.H. Howard, Sub Asst Com, at Huntsville, Texas, with the following indorsement.

"The indorsement from this office, dated Jan 29 1868, referring to Mr. Howard the case of Alex'r John (f.m.c.) for settlement, was issued in ignorance of the fact that the case had already been commenced in the Civil Court.

If the matter is not settled he will, upon the receipt of this, return the case to the court in which it was started and report action of Magistrate if injustice is done."

In reply to yours of the 21 inst., I am directed to return the inclosed communication signed by Mr. Wm. H. Sinclair, Inspector, and to say that your assignment to duty at Huntsville was made to take effect July sd6, 1868 by Wm. H. Sinclair, Inspector, "subject to the approval of the Asst. Commissioner." The Asst. Commissioner did not approve the assignment to take effect on the 6yth but on the 13th July as you will observe by examining the order from this office assigning your to duty and your appointment from the Commissioner.
