there were very few, if any, of the inhabitants of the place who did not have a hand in this outrage; he also states that in his opinion, the only way to prove who are the guilty parties, is to arrest the whole town and hold these untill the innocent ones point out these that are guilty; I regret that I am unable to report any further particulars of this infamous outrage and trust you will have received a report from some one who may have heard more extended information.

Pursuant to leave of absence for 30 days granted me by Telegraph from General Griffin dated August 8th 1867, I leave for Louisville Ky. per boat to night, I am sorry to say the severe Illness and Death of my little son, has prevented me starting earlier
