Bureau R.F. and A. Lands

Col. W.H. Sinclair:
A.A. General

Colonel;
I have the honor to state that in this county things are becoming less quiet than for some months before the present time. A few days since a woman came from Leon County some twenty miles from here and reported that she had been stripped and whipped having received two hundred lashes from a white man named Bogue Harden. It will be next to impossible for me to do anything with his case owing to the distance. On the night of the 3rd ult a colored man got into a difficulty at Randolph a place ten miles east of this. He was charged with entering the sleeping apartment of a white woman. The girls father and another white man tried to arrest him when he (the freedman) fired upon them and he himself was badly wounded but escaped and was arrested two days later
