Sir I am requested by the Freedman & women now cultivating my land to make application to your Hd Quarters for a teacher to instruct themselves and children.

You will confer a favor upon the writer and his employees by giving the matter your personal and immediate attention and if you should send one that is competent and disposed to render himself agreeable and not officious or meddlesome, he will be treated with every mark of respect due from one gentleman to another and I will guarantee to him from fifty to seventy five pupils which at the customary charges for tuition in this section of the state will nett him from one hundred to one hundred & fifty dollars per month; exclusive of board which be but a small item. no charges will be made for rent or fuel. The Freedman under my charge are working verry well and I think that their will be no risk to him about their being able to pay their tuition
