Wm Sinclair
Sub Asst Comr.

Sir
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your communication of the 15 inst and in reply I have to state that the letters referred to in the "Galveston News" of the 13 inst is a falsehood, and cannot be proved.

I suppose I am situated the same as all the Agents in regards to having bribes offered me, and wither I accepted them or not, I get the credit for doing so since I have been here. I have not accepted money, an interest in the farm, or any other present for my influence, nor have I done anything outside of my officers capacity.

The [[?]] referred to in the letter I suppose mean my Brother in Law, Judge Shutze, and to a certain extent he has been furnishing hands, but not in the way implyed in that letter. Mr. Shutze during the war, and at the present time is known as one of the strongest Union men in the Western part

Transcription Notes:
I wish the Galveston article were included so i could figure out the slur his brother in law was called :(
