of Mr. R D Goree who claimed to have controll over some seven or eight young Freedpeople Orphans the majority of whom are over (15) fifteen year old - Two of them certainly eighteen - Mr George himself stated that these peoplle were forced to remain with him against their will and the Freedpeople themselves beged him with Tears in their Eyes to relieve them from what as the called it was worse than slave times - That Mr Goree stated that he had not sent them to Schools & that in all probibility he would not, as there was no School in the neighbourhood - All of these young people have connections either Brothers Uncles or Aunts with whom I talked - and they all seem well to do Freedmen & women - That Mr Goree has a large Plantation whout [[without?]] a sufficient force and that it is his opinion if those people are compeled to remain with him Mr Goree) during the coming season and untill they are twenty one years old they will not be well treated and will not be paid for their services while were they at liberty they could either obtain from ten to twenty Dollars pr month.
