Lieut Kirkman
A.A.A. Genl B.R.F. & A.L.

Sir,
The undersigned most respectfully petitions to be relieved from that portion of the order of Lieut Cram
Sub Asst Comr in the matter of the complaint of Anna Denois a colored woman which in addition to the cash
penalty of two hundred dollars, required your petitioner to execute his note for two hundred dollars more, at six months, in satisfaction of said complaint and to support this application he begs leave to submit the following considerations.

Lieut Cram on the trial had much difficulty in deciding the case and suggested a compromise to which your petitioner made no objection and proposed in order to buy his peace against further annoyance to pay the woman two hundred dollars in satisfaction of her complaint which was as much as he felt able to pay under the circumstances. The case was held under advisement for several days and finally decided by requiring your petitioner to pay two hundred dollars in cash and two hundred dollars in installments on short time and granting him until 3. O clock P.M. of that day to comply
with the order or go to prison. Being
