109b Academy picture. Two gentlemen from Baltimore called in the afternoon Mr. Stillman and Mr. Senff. Mr. Stillman said Geo. Coale wanted him to see my pictures. I showed them all to him but I don't think he was much interested in them. I think Mrs. Senff had more appreciation. I finally showed him my figures and he immediately wanted to buy the little one and asked my price. I couldn't tell him as I had not thought of that. He told me to let him know when I had made up my mind. I had a very pleasant talk with them. They seemed to be genial men and I think I impressed them pleasantly. It has rained all afternoon and the snow is going like smoke. Friday 13. Saturday 14" John Weir came in and lunched with us after which we went up to see Thompsons statue of the first president of Yale College, which I think one of Thompson's best works. Weir went home this afternoon. In the evening Gertrude and I went over to Vauxs to see the private theatricals which Bowyer and his friends have been at work upon for a long time. The plays were creditably rendered. Will Radford showed decided talent. After this was over I went to the Lotos Club to a reception to Charles Kingsley. It was late when I [[strikethrough]] tried [[/strikethrough]] reached there and he had gone. Was invited to join the club as one of seven leading artists, to become a life member at no cost except to give a sketch if I chose. Sunday 15. Was threatened with a head ache all day but dined with Gifford in his room in the evening. Mrs. Cook, Edith and Mrs Pychunka [[best guess]], Mary Gifford, Sara, Mary & Vaux and Gertrude & I were the company. Monday 16. Mr Holt brought a Mr. James from Baltimore to see my pictures. I offered him either of my large ones for a thousand dollars. Of course he couldnt decide but will bring his wife tomorrow. The usual way. Went to a little entertainment at Mrs. Monnells at the Albemarle hotel the occasion being the 14" anniversary of her marriage and Burger Vaux's 19" birthday. Tuesday 17. Mr Holt came this morning with Mr & Mrs James and another lady. They all seemed to like my November best but didnt buy. They went from here to Giffords room and I am quite sure his pictures will please them better
