River" 16 x 26. Price $600. "Solitaire" 18 x 21 1/2 Price $600 and "A Wood Path" belonging to Henry James Esq. Weir dined with us and Gifford came in in the evening to get us to go to the Art Museum where we were invited to a reception the occasion being to see the "Last Summers work of Kensett" presented to the museum by Thos. Kensett and the pictures of the "Cross and the World" of Cole presented by Colyer. I begin to be tired of crowds and didnt go.

Tuesday. March 31. 1874. Eastman Johnson and I went up to Rondout on Saturday by the Wallkill Valley R.R. It was pretty cold and there was a little snow which had fallen the night before. Sunday we took a walk to the Roo Tura and loitered about in sunny and sheltered places for five hours where we went home to dinner. It was a bright day with a breath of winter in the air but we both enjoyed this taste of the country exceedingly. We came back to New York on Monday morning. Today I have had a slight headache. Mr. Durand was over and Fitch invited Gifford, Whittredge, Hubbard, Hall and me to lunch with him. The old gentleman looked remarkably well and enjoyed meeting his artist friends. Mr. Stillman of Baltimore called with his wife but I did not see him. He apologized to Gertrude for not having replied to my letter and said he would call to see me next week. I called on Mrs. Church last evening at Mr. Deforests but they had gone to the opera. We think there is a coolness on their part towards us and do not know why. Church has been in town a week ad shown a new picture and has not been near me whereas he usually comes to my studio the first thing. They have evidently misinterpreted something.

Thursday Apl 2. At a meeting of the committee on admissions at the Century we elected Dr Hitchcock a Presbyterian divine to fill the only vacancy.

Sunday Apl 5th. We dined at the Wheelers on Friday evening with the Plattes, Gifford and George Hall for the first time in many years. Dora has grown into a very pretty young woman whom I did not at first recognize. Saturday Gifford and I went to hear Proctor in "Other Worlds" while Gertrude went to hear Lohengrin"
