from Raniger of London sending me a detailed bill and asking me rather huffily to remit without delay. It has been a beautiful day and cool in the evening.

July 1, 1874. Wrote to Booth today that it would be doubtful if we could visit him at the end of August. Would come for a week if we could. Wrote to Mr. Coale that I would paint him a picture as soon as I could. Received a check from Snedecor for $50 and a letter from Wilmont. Painted on the little picture of Marian fishing. Tried to paint in Long Stoddard but it is a failure. These little folks are not still an instant.

Tuesday 2. Wrote to Menger to send the "October Snow" and the "Hudson River" to Cincinnati and the "October in the Kaatskills" and the Murano to Louisville, to insure the first for $800 the second $250 the third for $1500 and the last for $250. I wrote to Mr. Maginness the secretary at Louisville that I would sell the first for 1250 and the second for $250.

Friday 3. Joe Tomkins & Tula came this evening and later Dr. Emerson & Calvert. Fred Stedman came during the afternoon. Saturday 4. We went on a picnic to the same place we went last year, at the 5th Binnewater. I drove the new buck board with Gertrude & Sade and Pa took my Mother & Mary with Lovey & Marian. The rest of the party went by rail road. It was a charming day and we had a very pleasant time until about 3 o'clock when it began to rain and continued until 5 when we started for home. On the way a very heavy storm overtook us but we fortunately got into a barn and had complete shelter. My father who went by Greenkill was caught in the storm and they were drenched to the skin. When we got home we found Lieut. Loeske here, so the house is full of people.

Monday 6. Painted two little pictures for Sam Cuykendall Kaaterskill Clove and a winter evening and made a little sketch from the front porch. Calvert, Julia and Fred
