Gen'l - We the undersigned soldiers Detacht 17th I inf. Co. D. beg leave to present the following, to your consideration.

On the first of Mch. 67 it will be three months that we have provided for our own substanance [[sustenance]]. The citizens of this place have extended their kinship to let us have provisions on credit to be paid monthly with the express permission from Lieut Harris that he would have the extra allowance for our rations paid to us promptly.

Although we have presented the matter to Lt. Harris several times he does not seem to take any action in the matter & his excuses appear to us of doubtful character. The Merchants decline to extend our credit unless they are paid, & we appeal to you for a remedy. 

Our company commander Lieut Vanhorse (who is stationed at Houston) would have probably been the proper officer to apply to but Lieut Harris being under your immediate command we thought best
