These wrongs and requiring a settlement for work done during the fall of 1865.

Many complaints by freedmen from adjoining counties of failure to pay for labor performed and abuses received at the hand of their employer   From all appearances these freemen must suffer during the coming winter for the comforts necessaries of life.

A freedman by name of Dan Wheat was murdered on the 21st instant near his own home at Farmington in Grason County  Four men rode up to the house after night  called said Wheat out  arrested him for some pretended offense  took him off couple hundred yards and shot him down. The guilty party is not known.

The citizens are calming down very fast. They have discovered that the "My Policy" is not going to work out their political salvation as contemplated. That there is a slight hinderance in the working of The Machine: in the shape of a radical Congress. it is surprising how rapidly loyalty is growing here of late.
