to all concerned, and requiring a just compliance by both parties to all contracts. This man is stranger to us, and knows nothing of the relations that have always existed between Freedmen and their farmer owners. In every sense we "hold him totaly unfit for his present position = We feel and [[?]]w that none but - an original Union man can' be appointed to this office = We therefore should the case as we shall presented it. Justify Mr. Longworth's removal, Respectfully recomend the Hon Mr. C. Wiseman at [present?] Judge of the County Court of Guadelupe County Texas, by the appointment of his Excellency W. B. Hamilton Goviner, for the Vacancy. He is a good Lawyer, a man of good business qualifications & habits, firm as a man, and whose integrity as a public officer gives Universal Satisfaction, he will accept the position if tendered to him, not that he desires it, neither has he in any shape solicited it but simply for the public good. his Industry and Kindness of heart, will give peace and quiet to our domestic relations, and build up the Kindliest feelings between the Freedmen & the whites, such as always existed before the advent of Mr Longworth and his fifteen Soldiers inflicting upon the Country, a cost - & seeming arbitrary - that is totaly uncalled for. We feel that no officer of the Freedman's Bureau here would need a guard for protection in the discharge of his duties, any more than our current or district Judges = Certainly if our people were disposed to be rebellious, little guards like these would only tend to exasperate them, and to perhaps make a disturbance, where there wont [[crossed out]] illegible [[/crossed out]] otherwise be none. All of which is most Respectfully Submitted. April 30 1866
