Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands,
Washington, August 1st, 1867.

Circular Letter.

The following recommendations of a Board of officers convened "to recommend a proper classification of Agents, Clerks, and other employees of this Bureau, with the amount of compensation for each grade" are approved, and Assistant Commissioner of this Bureau are hereby directed to carry out the same within their respective jurisdiction from and after August 1st 1867.

One (1) Disbursing officer for each State who shall be required to give bonds in the sum of six thousand dollars at a monthly salary of two hundred dollars ($200.)

One (1) Inspector for each State, at a monthly salary of one hundred and fifty dollars ($150.)

One (1) Superintendent of Schools for each State at a monthly salary of one hundred and fifty dollars ($150.)
