B.F. Harper sworn on oath says.
Nelson had in about 32 acres of my best land in cotton. My account against Nelson for all things of every sort furnished him by me was say five hundred and fifty dollars- I think I took the cotton at 14% and doing so on settlement of my account Nelson fell behind about one hundred and seventy four dollars and 75 cs for which I hold his note - After the 12 Bale trade Nelson pretty much quit work. And many a good day he nor his folks ever picked a lock of cotton. The cotton was some of it, in a damaged state, and this is the reason why it was not worth more than 14% Nelson did not work the land as he agreed to that is he did not cultivate it as well as he ought. I think if the cotton has been all picked out there would have been at least 20%.
