at—another"; and I do not understand whether the board wishes that such information be given or not. However, I have concluded not to give it in the endorsement. If I were to make the explanation, I would state, in all candor, that I do not believe rents to be much higher, if any, than Livingston, or Liberty either. I would further state that I can procure rooms here at from -00-, to $25.00 per month. I engaged a suitable room to be furnished for $15.00 per month, which was exceedingly cheap; I deemed this better than to bother the Q.M. Office about lumber, desk, chars &c. As to the office at Livingston being rented for $5, I will say that Mr. Goddin did not care to make that charge, as he could furnish the room for nothing. I must have a nice office, and that well furnished, and am willing for the bureau to pay for it if it is proper; there are a great many other little offices, such as lights &c. but I shall never again ask for any more allowances. I shall wait hoping for my salery to be raised, then I am willing to pay all expences out of my own funds. My personal expences so far has exceeded $60.00 per month (board & travelling exp.) which I can easily show. x x x
