Sir Lieut.
I have to beg permission to inform you that on about the 1st Inst under Special Orders No 137. Hd Qtrs Dist of Texas Galveston Texas July 22nd 1867. by which the Commdg Officer of the Post of Centreville was directed to send to this post Six (6) picked men, privates - to relieve the men then on duty here. There came 6. Six men. 4 of whom were Sick & had been sick for some time, they Say they were taken off of the Sick Report and Sent here. They are still Sick. and unable to do duty One of them John Jones is quite old and infirm The Sick, from all appearances will remain Sick a good while, all chronic cases. There are Several arrests to be made. They can not do it.

You will see from the Affidavits, I have thought proper to forward, the Sort of condition we are in  The Civil Authorities powerless, and my condition is I hope sufficiently
