Dennis Harrison formerly the property of Bartley Hickman sold 8 yrs ago by said B H. to Jackson Youngblood, since deceased At the time of Sale B.H. owed Dennis - his slave - two hundred dollars loaned money and paid the same to J Youngblood who then and thereby became paymaster to his Slave Dennis. At the time of Sale it was known and understood that this 200$ was part payment of 900$ to be paid by Said Dennis for his Emancipation from Slavery. Or in default of the 900$ [[strikethrough]] paid [[/strikethrough]] to be paid Dennis should serve 9 yrs that is to say for every years Service Mr Youngblood was to deduct from the Emancipation price (900$) one hundred dollars and if Dennis should serve the 9 yrs Youngblood was to then repay the 200$ Upon this Contract Youngbloods & [[illegible]] his wife- (Since freedom,) has paid to Dennis 2 Bienes 1/14 1/15 = $29.00 and now repudiates the Contract and refuses to make any further payment. Shall I force payment of the 200 & interest or not? I think the Freedman ought to have his money but as the circumstances are rather anomalous I respectfully ask your advice and order H S Johnson S.A.Cr
