To Lt JT Kirkman AAAG of the District of Texas

Sir
The undersigned resident citizens of the County of Navarro [[strikethrough]] county [[/strikethrough]] beg through you to represent to Maj Genl Griffin commanding the District, that they have heard with many regrets that some effort is being made to procure the removal of Mr J Williamson agent of the Freedmans Bureau at this place, from Navarro County and secure his assignment to duty at some other place. Mr Williamson has been among us but a short time, but so far as we have seen of his official conduct we give it our cordial approval and are convinced that he is earnestly endeavoring to discharge his official duties for the good of the county by meting out even handed justice to all classes with whom he has business without reference to race color or or previous condition. And we are averse to exchanging him, now that he is becoming known to us, for a stranger.
