General

I forwarded to your Adjutant
by last mail monthly estimates covering the minimum expenses of these Head Quarters since first of January. Do not permit me to
suffer for lack of form.  By a mighty effort I succeeded in coaxing out ^of the Dept Quartermaster at San Antonio, four blank forms No 9, and have used them as well as I knew how, I do not pretend my Estimates are exactly correct, but I do assert I am the amount absolutely out of Pocket, and more, much more, From continual watching of what is going on in Washington and other places I am forced to think you could do something for me in the way of Salary.  The drain on me is continual, and can only come out of my private means, Whenever you recognize the fact that I am earning Captains pay and commutation allowance, and can draw for it is in my favor I will be pleased, Remember I am away in the wilderness far from any post or district Commander and scarcely recognized by them when I presented myself, and have not yet had the assistance of
