I have never considered this place only as a temporary station. I always knew, I should move, sooner or later to a more central point, not to a wider, but a heavier field of action. Gonzales or San Antonio, there is more work at Gonzales, but more necessity at San Antonio. The size of the latter will cause a great necessity for a police Court, or rather my office of necessity would be turned into a police Court. I have considered the matter a good deal, and will lean on the side of charity. So far I have been without means, seven men such as I have, and seven frames of horses, scarcely able to stand up, are all I had to work with, and all that was or would be allowed me. For the future I will be more exacting, any requisition hereafter denied me I will forward to you.
