Genl, The within enclosed was written by Capt Craig of Seguin on his return after visiting me concerning the Murder of two Negroes in this vicinity. It is only the addendum to his Note I wish to draw your attention to. Am I still to be annihilated by slow torture, or have I & others in my position no protection [[strikethrough]] from [[/strikethrough]] against the rebel vultures who - under shadow of Law - are trampling down all Law.

I shrewdly suspect the President is taking revenge out of us and our kind or he never would have made such a ruling.

In or out of Office I am always in the Front receiving the brunt of the battle, for me there is no recreation, and to me there will be no mercy shown by my political opponents.

Drop me a line so as I may know the worst, if it was only to say you know of no protection that can be extended to me, And I will keep a close watch at the office (Post) until I hear from you. If it is inevitable that I must go
