through a trial for felony for each act of mine before a rebel jury - then indeed it would be better for me I had never been born -

What I ask is to enable me to judge whether I shall face the struggle or double quick away from it. Some three weeks since I asked for a Court Martial and as yet have not heard of or from it.

With the same Mail that I send this I prefer charges against Lt J.B. Moore, Late Sub Asst Commssr, at Seguin, and regret to say that they are certain to be proven - The unfortunate Freedmen round here can scarcly realize the fact that I am out of Office, And come to me as usual with Complaints. They will never get over the shock occasioned by the change from me to Moore, And will never give confidence to any one again, not even Capt Craig. The charges against Moore are so publick that unless he is brought to trial, it will be supposed he was connived at by some authority above him. Please answer by return Mail.

Very Respectfully
