Adalaide f.W.C. Enterd Suit for damages against C.C. Millican a Citizen of Brazoria for twenty-five Hundred dollars in our State Court— But finding she had a bad show, or in fact no show for Justice in the State Court, as evidensed for an aggravated assault & battery in favor of the State & found gilty by the Jury, the Law Limiting the penalty to the Lowest grade to a fine of one Hundred Dollars for the slightest offense, & for an aggravated case to One Thousand dollars fine & not above two years imprisonment in the County Jail— The Jury for a most outrageous case of aggravated assault proved clearly, only assessed the fine to only one hundred dollars without imprisonment—

This was tried in the Last Dist Court, held at Brazoria— She also brought a Suit for damages for personal injuries done her by Said C.C. Millican, maltreating on the public highway in the most Shameful & outrageous manner & which was not even denied by him or his Counsel— Yet the Jury found for the State one Hundred dollars fine & no imprisonment— The lightest penalty known to the Law. in the face all these facts— The writer of this letter is now over Seventy two years of age & he has never before Witnessed an act of such, brutal, unfeeling & devilish in character, having ever before been made known in this long life of Experience, & one that calls louder for the interfereance of Justice & humanity— & I therefore appeal to you for your action in the premises —
