I have the honor to report a most dastardly outrage committed at this place on the night of the 27th inst. A crowd of persons unknown at present fired into my office. Mr. G. U. Hewitt and I were in bed at the time (a little after twelve oclock) and shot me through the fleshy part of the thigh. Mr. Hewitt was not touched I directed him on Sunday morning to proceed to Woodville and report the circumstances to Maj. Sanger Comdg. Post of Woodville. I will make my monthly reports as soon as possible.
The Civil authorities have made an examination, but as always turns out they have made no discovery. One Company of men are needed here as soon as possible. I think this getting
