Office Sub-Assistant Commissioner. Bureau of R.F. & A.L.
Millican Tex. March 24th 1867

1st Lieut. J.T. Kirkman 26th U.S. Inf.
A. A. A. Gen'l. Bu. R.F. & A.L. State of Texas.

Sir:
In obedience to instructions received from the Asst. Comr I have seized the proceeds of 9 bales of Cotton about ($550.) raised upon the plantation of Rickard & Randle in 1866; and bought by Simmons & Smith from Dr. Randle. As the books and accounts of the plantation, were kept in a very bungling manner, and as some of the hands, worked without contracts, and only during parts of the year, I have not yet been able to fix the amount due, and will not be ready to pay them till next week.

Yesterday Dr. Randle, the father of the man who killed Capt. Rickard, appeared before me, and under oath, made the following statements.

I have never removed or caused to be removed any corn from the plantation cultivated by Rickards & Randle in 1866; with the exception of 25 bu. for which I received $18.75/100, and I have never received either money or its equivalent, except the above; for corn raised upon said plantation in 1866.

The hogs I took, were my own property. I had sold them to Rickards & Randle, but never received any payment for them.

The late Captain Rickard is also justly indebted to me, to the amount of $1492.50/100 being one half of the land and over
