Sir,
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of Spec. Order No. 35 Par III and IV, and also that Mr. H. Clark has relieved me this day, from duty at this post, and that I have turned over to him all the official documents as ordered.

As I am the only witness in favor of a Freedman, Andrew Banks, who is arraigned for theft before the District Court, which is now in session in De Witt County, I beg leave to stay here, until his case has come before the court, which will be on Monday or Tuesday next week.
