Larissa, Cherokee Co, Texas. Feby 2nd 1867. Genl Kiddoo Chief Freedman's Bureau Galveston Texas. Genl: I have the honor to submit the following facts for your consideration and to ask a reply hereto. About the 4th Jany past I made a contract (a copy of which I herewith enclose) with the Freedman "Joshua Robertson" & his family - consisting of his wife Harriet, Boys Jeff, Bob, & Ed. - about the 8th Jany I was served with an order from the Hon. Co. Court for this Co., for the Boy Jeff & could not resist it only by protest in writing which I did, by writing to the Co. Clerk & Chief Justice. The party to whom the order was given was George W. Taylor who had applied under the late apprentice Law of the State for the Boy to be bound, or apprenticed to him till 21 years of age.
