Copy of Contract State of Texas County of Cherokee This contract made this the 31st day of Dec. 1866. for the year 1867 till January 1868, between JM Brooks and the freedman "Joshua Robertson" contracting for, himself and family as follows: Wife Harriet, her sons Jeff, Bob & Ned. - Said Brooks agrees to give Said Freedman & his family two hundred dollars (specie) for the year 1867. They hereby agreeing to do & perform any & all service & labor required of them, faithfully for the year 1867, and they further agree to find themselves, with clothing, Provisions, Medical Bills &c. In short they hereby agree to pay all their own expenses for the year, and to account for lost time - Said Brooks agrees to furnish them with provisions & clothing such as they need & reserve their indebtedness to him out of their wages. Articles furnished to be chgd. at the customary market prices of the county when furnished - Said wages due 1st Jany 1868.
