consulted with Mr Deming, his advice was to gather a sum as security and decided to take $1200. but after reduced it to $1000  This sum was paid me by Maj Worthen. After some time I rearrested the parties and they then told me that they had found the freedman. I then paid back the money to Mr Worthen and done this on his mear word. two days before he produced the freedman. and asked him at the same time if it was not the original package of money he had paid me. he examined it and said it was. I then held them under arrest until they had produced the freedman before me. he comeing I sent for his wife and she recognised him. also several more persons. I then dismissed the parties accused but told them they were not entirely relieved from arrest.
