Before me P.K. Smith, clerk of the County Court of Liberty County. This day personally appeared A.H. Mayer; Sub. Asst. Comr. Bu. R.F. & A.L. for the said county of Liberty, and after being duly sworn, upon his oath, says, that Dr J. Orville. Shelby is the Lessee of the "Bryan Plantion", the "Boes d'arc plantation" & the "Pickett place" all in said Liberty County & containing about two hundred and Eighty five acres of cleared land. on which he, the said Shelby has. employed, twenty six freedmen (men & women) with whom he has never had a contract approved [[strikethrough]] by the Head Quarters of [[/strikethrough]] by the said Sub Asst. Comr. Affiant further states that the said Shelby has on at his own place known as the Shelby place, on which there are about one hundred acres in cultivation, on which he has about twenty freedmen (men women & children) employed, for which the said Sub Asst. Comr has no contract on file approved. -
