Office of U.S. Military Commander
Chicago Dec 7th 1864.

General James B. Fry
Pro : Mar : General.

General-

Allow me to recommend to your favorable consideration for the position of Captain in the Veteran Reserve of Corps, Capt. Edward Miller.

Capt Miller was a Lieut in the Regiment I had the honor to command in the field (the 38th N.Y.) and acquitted himself nobly. He lost his left arm in the Service.

Should his appointment be made I would respectfully ask his assignment to my Regiment, as I am in need to good Captains.

Very Respectfully
Your Obed't Servant
(Signed) James C. Strong.
