I think that Maj. Manning will turn Dr Bell J.C. McCrary and Dr Irving over to the civil authorities before long. If so, I will have an affidavit made against each of the parties, and send them by the Sheriff of the County Judge of Bosque County for examination (Bosque being the county in which the offence was committed and the offence being a felony). I understand that the daughter of J.C. McCrary will make an affidavit against the Freedman alleged to be castrated by these parties charging him with an attempt to commit a rape on her. If this be so it will be my duty to have him arrested and tried before an examining court and held to face for his appearance at the next term of the District Court for Bosque County.
Maj. Manning has promised to lay before me a description of the person who murdered the Freedman, and also furnish me with an affidavit charging him with the offense. When he does this I will make out the proper papers and make an application for a reward. I would have applied before, and have often thought of it but had not the necessary evidence to base an application upon
