Whereas complaint has been made to me under oath that you illegally restrain John C. McCrary of his liberty, these are therefore to command you that you appear before me on the 21st day of January 1867 (Inst) at 3 O'clk P.M. and bring with you the body of the said John C. McCrary at the Court House in the city of Waco in the County of McLennan and then and there show by your written return on this Writ whether of not you have in your custody or under restraint the said John C. McCrary, and by what authority you so detain him.

Herein fail not but due return make under the penalty of the law.
