The officers and soldiers who have been stationed in our County have been gentlemen. They have been treated with courtesy by the people. Capt. Bradford who is now here with his Company is a gentleman. We are under many obligations to him and his command for the sound advice and practical lectures they have given the freedmen We already note a marked Change for the better, and only have to regret that they or some like them cannot remain all the time, no difficulty would have occurred, our reputation for peace and order would have been different and many more bushels of Corn and bales of Cotton would have been grown in the County to benefit the white man and the freedman. & add to the general prosperity of the County, than can now possibly be produced.

We are fully persuaded that the authorities of the U.S. wish to cultivate peace and friendly feelings to heal up the past, and restore the Country to prosperity. We know that such is the honest and sincere desire of the great mass of the people of this County. To accomplish this purpose
