Section 5. The hours of teaching are, from eight to eleven o´clock, ante meridian, and from two to five o´clock, post meridian, in the months of March, April, May, June, and July; and from nine, ante meridian, to twelve, meridian, and from two to five, post meridian, in the months of September, October, November, December, and January. On Wednesday and Saturday afternoons, the schools shall be closed; also on Sundays, during Christmas week, including New Year´s Day; on Friday before and Monday after, Easter - Sunday, and on the fourth day of July. February and August shall be months of vacation.

Section 6. The children shall be allowed ten minutes' recess, every morning and afternoon; but the recess of the male department shall be at a different time from that of the female department. 

Section 7. At the beginning of each session, the teachers shall present to the city council a list of their pupils, containing their ages, and names; also, the different classes into which the school is divided.

Section8. It is the duty of the teachers to see that their pupils attend to the school regularly, and at the proper time; also, that they behave well and keep themselves clean. They may employ all means that they think proper to have good discipline and order in their schools. They shall take good care of the buildings and premises used for, and the furniture belonging to, the schools; and they shall report to the committee on education any repairs that may be necessarily required upon such buildings, and other property.
