Sir, 

I have the honor to transmit herewith letter from Capt Byron Porter Sub. Asst Comm B.R.F & A L at Bastrop dated April 30th relative to the arrest of one A.W. Fort, marked "A" Copy of my reply marked "B" letter from Capt Porter transmitting the evidences &c in the case marked "C" Copy of evidence marked "D". Subpoenas marked "E" and copy of my last letter to Capt Porter marked "F".

You now have all the light on the subject that has been presented to me. Capt Porter has as will be seen by my letter to him of this date (copy enclosed) been instructed to hold Fort in confinement until further orders. Be pleased to instruct me in the Case and what further steps to take should any be required. In the event Fort should not be brought before a Military Commission or other Court for trial and his release ordered. Please Communicate with me by telegraph.
