passage of the Civil Rights Bill. This increased agitation and hostility are probably the causes of the increase of personal outrages committed on Freedmen lately. 
The desire for education is growing very rapidly among all ages and sexes. The Schools in this City are in a very flourishing condition and the number of scholars in attendance is constantly increasing. One night school has been commenced this month and is well attended. A Sunday School has also been organized during the month at the Mount Zion Church and already has over seventy members. 
The number of dependents remains about the same, as shown by the Report. The County Authorities have done nothing yet to relieve the Bureau of this class of people. 
The health of the colored portion of the community is generally very good. There are no diseases of an epidemic nature prevalent.
