General!
Your undersigned Petitionner Ned Pillot a freedman, would respectfully bring to your notice that he has two Grand Children at the residence of Mr Groce near Hempstead that he is told by M. Broce that those children are bound to him until of age, that he your petitionner do not know by what authority they are thus kept in bondage by a stranger he as their nearest relative having according to the statutes of this state the first right to become their guardian  your petitionner has offered and will yet give bond with good securitys for the support of those children  Cap. B. Porter has got the matter in hand and said he could do nothing that your petitioner should adress himself directly to your honor for relief in this matter  And your petitioner would further pray your Generalship if in your justice
