Without any soldiers in the county, I do not think it advisable to establish schools out of the town.

If it is intended to establish schools on Caney or in Wharton county, then a small detatchment say 15 or 20 Cavalry should be stationed here and at Wharton first and after the schools were established say for two or three months, then perhaps the troops might be taken away. It is troops, and not the number of troops that is wanted, fifteen or twenty are as good as five hundred
