Lieutenant:
I have the honor to report that the Sheriff of this County attempted to arrest me yesterday. I refused to obey his writ and called upon Major Lathrop Post Commandant in whose office I happened to be at the time, for military protection, which was promptly given me.

The Sheriff was referred to Gen'l. Orders, No. 3 current series War Dept. and Gen'l. Orders, No. 5 current series Dept. of Texas.

I enclose herewith a copy of the writ.

The Major has furnished a guard to remain at my office to prevent another attempt at arrest which is threatened
