Dissatisfaction will then commence. We have say 1800 Negroes in the county.  It is lucky for us that we have a small body of troops here, especially as by 1 November the officers will have been here long enough to get acquainted with the county.  When the company arrived here from Columbia, they were owing to sickness almost all unfit for service; but as they have good cistern water, and no malaria to contend with, they are fast recovering; by spring they will all be fit for service  One more month of Columbia would have finished many of them, 

I hope you will in some way, meet the action of our secession friends at Austin.  As they deny the charge that negroes do get killed in Texas, could you not let us have a list, (day and date) of the negros killed in your district for the last six months - We Unionists would be glad to see it - We would make the best of it   I am satisfied that about 6 weeks ago, a negro child was shot out of mere wantonness, also that on his brother going to see about it, that he also, has been put out of the way. = I hear of a headless negro floating  down the Brazos.  I do not apprehend many outrages in this county.  We have a stronger union party than most
