Sir I have the honor to report the facts in the affray between one Darwin of Grimes Co, Tex. and the Freedman Dick.
On or about the 1st of Oct. 1866
Dick came to my office in my absence badly wounded on my return I found Dick in an outhouse attended by a physician. I asked who shot him, he replied Overton Darwin I immediately examined the matter and was convinced that Dick was the aggressor, when I wrote to the Justice of Peace requesting him to take action in the case, I was present during the examination of Mr & Mrs Stracy whose evidence was to the effect that Dick commenced the difficulty. Mr Stracy is a german citizen whose integrity is unquestionable (These affidavits can be procured of A.C Callaway J P of Grimes Co. at Courtney) When the evidence over
