I have the honor to apply for a company or a detachment of Cavalry.  The community within fifteen miles of this place I can manage alone.  Outside that distance I am powerless.  There are twenty seven Counties in this district but nine or twelve only are within reaching distance even with Cavalry. There are bands of organized robbers in the Southern portion of this country who prey alike upon white and black and several other counties are equally pestered by these Marauders.  With a company or a detachment I could rid the district and insure protection.  The effect would be soon felt.  Fifteen counties or all surrounding Harrison County would be quieted and freedmen would be protected.  Yesterday a freedman presented upon himself with two bullets holes through him for no other cause than by being one of a christmas Jubilee dancing party was shot through a window. They dare not carry anything to protect themselves with for they
