a story in the N.Y. "Independent" and also in the "Tribune" to the effect that since the rebel forces surrendered in 1865, over Two Thousand seven hundred (2700) freedman have been murdered in the state of Texas alone, and our newest papers are constantly teeming with stories of like import as you are probably aware: The information I seek is, How many freedmen have been murdered in the state of Texas since the rebels surrendered? And is their condition as bad as is represented in that respect - If you will have the goodness to send me this information you will do a great service to myself and many others here who wish to know the truth.
