Sir,
I have the honor to acknowledge the reception (of 10th inst) of your letter of 6th inst covering draft of Messrs. J.C. & S.R. Smith & Co. and Messrs J.W. Baldwin & Co payable to the order of Richard Jarvis freedman for seventy eight dollars & seventy five cent specie ($78.75)

Since the receipt of your letter Richard Jarvis has not been to town tho efforts have been made to advise him. As soon as his receipt can be obtained it will be transmitted in accordance with instructions from Hd Quarters.

Maj. A.H. Mayer is still absent on his tour, through the upper portions of this County. The late unusually heavy rains have doubtless interfered with his progress materially.

I am Sir
Very Respectfully
