They came first to the house occupied by my brother-in-law and myself, they first shot my dog, which awakened my brother-in-law who opened the door of his part of the house they fired several shots at him but missed him, he thus closed the door and crawled under the bed, they then broke in the door and took burning wood from the fire-place and threw it over the bed where my nephew Wash. Wharton. was sleeping, he got up, ran out of the house and they fired at him and shot him dead, from there they proceeded to the house of Hugh Burton, J.M, about 40 yd's distant, breaking in the door and throwing fire over the house: Hugh ran out when they shot him, wounding him badly. the Dr says mortally, the women and children also
