Arms, on the Freedmen denying having them, young Fields immediately shot Lew and Jack killing one instantly the other living a few hours.  After committing this, the most horrible murder, young Fields makes his escape it is said out of the country, but I have reason to believe this is false, and I have taken measures to find his whereabouts.
At the time of my investigation of the matter, at Fields farm the excitement was so great, with both White and Black, I thought it best for the security of the two remaining sons of Lew, to send them to my office, where they remained till after the excitement had abated, when I returned them to their crop, notifying the parties that they would be protected in gathering it and this act would be held responsible for the wages of Lew and Jack.
I am very much in need of horses to mount the men under my charge as I have no doubt but I could have arrested the Murderer ere this, if they had been well mounted
