Statement of David Roan, freedman of, Galveston County, 
Galveston, Texas June 7th 1867.
My name is David Roan; I live in the city of Galveston, and have two brothers. William and Benjamin; the former lives in Galveston, where his family is now, the latter has rented land from Mr. Wheats, at Millican, Brazos County Texas, which he was cultivating himself. Both of my brothers are at present in jail at Millican, and liable to be kept there for an uncertain length of time, on suspicion to have stolen some meat at the said place. About a month ago, a colored man, whose name has been ascertained afterwards, ran by my brother's house at Millican, dropping in his hurry a piece of meat, which he had stolen somewhere in town, and also threw off his shoes, as he was closely followed by some men, in pursuit of him, and effected his escape. The men there entered my brother's cabin, and arrested him (Benjamin)and
